Anissa Project:

Custom EV Charging Management Solution for Amazon

Project Overview

The Anissa project aimed to develop a bespoke software solution for managing Amazon’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. This initiative was driven by the need to transition from a third-party software to a tailored system designed specifically for Amazon’s fleet operations.

Key Objectives

  1. Create a comprehensive charge point management system
  2. Develop intuitive visualization tools for station-wide and vehicle-specific data
  3. Implement Amazon-specific features to address unique operational requirements
  4. Be able to access information from anywhere via desktop, tablet or mobile

Scope of Work

  • Charge Point Organization: Developed a new taxonomy and data structure to efficiently categorize and manage all charge points across Amazon’s network.
  • Station-Level Management: Created tools for overseeing charging operations at individual stations, including capacity planning and utilization tracking.
  • Vehicle Integration: Implemented systems to link each Amazon delivery vehicle with its charging data and history.
  • Visualization Dashboard: Designed user-friendly responsive interfaces to display real-time and historical charging data for both individual vehicles and entire stations.

Custom Features

  • Amazon-Specific Algorithms: Developed charging prioritization algorithms based on Amazon’s unique delivery schedules and route optimization.
  • Fleet-Wide Analytics: Implemented advanced analytics to track charging patterns, energy consumption, and cost across the entire fleet.
  • Scalability: Ensured the system could accommodate rapid fleet expansion and new station deployments.

Handling Special Circumstances

  • Dynamic Load Balancing: Created protocols for managing power distribution during peak charging times or grid constraints.
  • Fault Detection and Reporting: Implemented automated systems to identify charging failures and initiate maintenance requests.
  • Emergency Protocols: Developed contingency plans for power outages or charging infrastructure failures to minimize delivery disruptions.

Integration with Amazon Ecosystem

  • Routing Software Integration: Ensured seamless data exchange with Amazon’s routing systems to optimize delivery schedules based on vehicle charge levels.
  • Maintenance Systems: Integrated with Amazon’s existing maintenance tracking software for streamlined charge point upkeep.

This custom solution not only replaced the third-party software but also provided Amazon with a powerful tool tailored to its specific needs, enhancing operational efficiency and supporting the company’s commitment to fleet electrification.
